Responsible Use Policy

Practical rules for creating realistic mockups without impersonating people, fabricating evidence, or misleading an audience.

Why this policy exists

Fake Generator makes it easy to create realistic-looking message and interface mockups. That is useful for storytelling, design, education, and testing, but the same realism can cause harm when a generated image is presented as authentic evidence.

Use the tools in a way that respects other people, makes the fictional or illustrative context clear when needed, and does not create a false belief about a real event.

Appropriate uses

Examples of appropriate use include:

  • storyboards, films, fiction, comics, and social videos;
  • product prototypes, user-flow presentations, and design reviews;
  • classroom examples and media-literacy exercises;
  • clearly labeled satire, parody, memes, and entertainment;
  • interface testing with fictional names and sample content;
  • thumbnails, marketing concepts, and visual demonstrations that do not impersonate a real conversation.

Uses that are not allowed

Do not use Fake Generator to create or distribute content that:

  • falsely claims that a real person sent, received, approved, confessed to, or threatened something;
  • is offered as evidence in a dispute, investigation, employment matter, legal process, or public accusation;
  • impersonates a bank, government agency, employer, school, healthcare provider, delivery service, or another trusted organization for deception;
  • supports fraud, phishing, extortion, harassment, stalking, defamation, or identity theft;
  • contains another person's private information without permission;
  • misrepresents a payment, purchase, verification code, account action, or emergency;
  • targets a child or vulnerable person with deceptive or harmful content.

Disclose the mockup when context could be unclear

A disclosure is appropriate when a reasonable viewer could mistake the image for a real screenshot. Depending on the project, use a caption such as “mockup,” “fictional conversation,” “recreated screen,” or “for demonstration only.”

Fictional names, fictional account details, and obviously sample values reduce the risk of confusing the mockup with a real person's communication.

Use uploaded images carefully

Only upload an avatar or image you have permission to use. Avoid using a real person's photograph in a fabricated conversation unless that person has agreed to the specific context.

Uploaded images are processed locally in the current browser session, but you remain responsible for the rights, privacy, and safety implications of the final exported image.

Reporting harmful use

If you believe Fake Generator is being used to support fraud, impersonation, harassment, or another harmful activity, send the relevant public URL or available context to hello@fake-generator.com. Do not send private credentials or sensitive personal records.

Relationship to the Terms of Use

This policy forms part of the Terms of Use. Serious or repeated violations may result in access restrictions or other appropriate action.
